One Word. Two Ruined Lives. Distracted Driving

7:12am. Eight minutes until I have to be in class. No big deal. I drive this route every day, and with the exception of students, no one ever drives these roads, let alone slow me down. The road’s a straightaway, I can see fine. The stop sign’s three hundred yards ahead. Speed really doesn’t matter at this point, provided I get to school on time. Besides which, my 1992 Volvo is so old and decrepit that it can’t go fast enough to hurt people anyway. I hit the gas a little. I then hear the sound of my phone vibrating against the dashboard. It could be important. I check it. It’s a text from my best friend. “Is that paper due today?” He probably didn’t do it, so I better reply. “Yup.”

Satire: AP Communism

There are many similarities between the interactions of the crowd of AP students at Pomperaug and the inner workings of Soviet communism. There are hierarchies, petty games, hateful judgments, and above all else, blind loyalty to those above (with secret hatreds and friendships sprinkled in). . .

Satire: Too Much College Mail? No Way!

It’s college application season! That joyous time of year full of holiday spirit! Before we all settle in to the coming weeks of tearing our hair out by the yule log and praying all of our components were received by an ever so reliable online system, I think we all need to sit back and enjoy the friendly messages sent by hundreds of quality universities across the country.

Satire: The Coffee Epidemic

At around 5:45am, the population of Pomperaug High school rolls out of bed to drag themselves to school. With their eyelids drooping dangerously as they get ready for the day, they think to themselves, “How will I ever be able to stay awake through history or math?” Then the answer to their problem hits them: Starbucks. When a hearty breakfast of cereal and orange juice just isn’t enough, students all over the country find themselves carpooling with other overly tired teens to Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts. What used to be a drink for hard working adults has turned into an amazing new fad for lazy teens. But how on earth did this sudden need for coffee spark to such incredible heights within the past decade?

Gestalt, Chapter 3

“This is suicide you know…” Foxtrot broke the silence with his grim news. Montegro didn’t respond. “Why would you throw your life away like this? It’s not like you; not a smart move.”
“Darn it Foxy, why?” Montegro released his grip on Foxtrot. . .

Short Story: Gestalt, Chapter 1

A man strutted down the streets, his black shoes slapping against the pavement as his coat danced around the backs of his legs. The coat shone white under the yellow sun, black sharp edges surrounded that white, showing where the fabric ended and began. The man kept his coat open, revealing his black t-shirt and black jean pants. He stopped at an abandoned building, turning towards a closed, beaten door. The man brushed his long, white hair out of the way as he tapped the nodes placed above his ears. . . .

Ascend the steps of clairvoyance,

gaze into the living water, where the eyes of one’s soul are given vision.

The rolling hills contain many secrets, treasures hid from humanity's prying eyes.

Encased in the heart of being, such modes of life and love still survive, but rarey contrive to subsist on the wisdom of the ancients. . . .

Poem: Kill the Voice

I would hate for someone to feel trapped

With the walls and ceilings closing in on them

So much so that they would break down and snap

And blaming people who were always around and forgiving those who were never there

If I could go back and see why I felt it maybe I wouldn’t be the way I am

So kill the voice inside your head

And lay all the distant memories to bed.

Just recently, a PHS custodian pitched his invention to the school and state administration. Joe James, the janitor, has organized and fabricated a vehicle that roams the halls driverless searching for students weary of walking to their classes. Mr. James even added a little bit of his custodian side; while driving, the vehicle also washes, scrubs and dries the floors that it drives on, increasing the effectiveness of his vehicle double fold . . .

Inspiration in Life

Muse. A muse can be a feeling, a sound, a sight, a place, a person, an object, or even an imaginary character. Inspiration comes from many different things, but one fact remains: Inspiration leads to creation. Don’t get me wrong, some people do let their inspiration go to waste - and sometimes they have no choice in that happening - but I pray to not be one of those people. Inspiration is a beautiful thing, and I would just like to write about some of the things that inspire me, whilst dearly hoping that you can relate . . .
