This is the fourth-to-last issue of the year. This may seem extremely insignificant, and in reality it probably is, but it just struck me how close I am to being done with my tenure as editor-in-chief. Next year, the two associate editors, Marlee Breakstone and Christy Dzubay, will be taking over as editors.

I haven�t written an Editor�s Corner for a couple of issues because there hasn�t been room in layout (plus I�ve been feeling a little lazy), but I�m back for issue 11. This one has a little more world news than usual, and I hope the articles will help you get caught up with what�s going on in the world.

It�s been a while since we�ve put out a new issue, but I hope this one will make up for it. There�s a lot going on at Pomperaug in 2012. One major thing is a new campaign against bullying�though we�ve all been bombarded with anti-bullying videos over the years, new programs at Pomperaug this year will step it up a level. . .

There�s a lot going on at Pomperaug now that everyone has settled down into their regular routine, and we�ve got it all covered in this issue. Welcome back to Pomperaug! We at the Phoenixhave been working hard for the past few weeks to get this issue out to you. We�ve been writing and interviewing. We�ve been lurking in the resource center trying to hunt down unsuspecting new teachers for photos (maintaining what has apparently become a tradition here at the Phoenix...). We�ve been sending out online surveys about passports, selling baked goods so we can afford to print issues, emailing teachers, meeting with administrators, and cutting deadlines close. And here it is: the first issue of the year!

When I met with Mrs. Rodrigue last week to discuss topics for a few different articles in this issue, I thought my one question about scheduling conflicts would be a minor part of the interview. But when I asked her if she thought this year�s new scheduling system had aggravated the problem of students not receiving the classes they wanted, I was surprised to find out that she hadn�t heard about the problem. . .

With less than a month left of school, PHS is pushing through those last stressful weeks of portfolios and projects and beginning to wind down for the year. A little over a month ago, something pretty major happened at the Phoenix that few people knew about. The original Phoenix website, created by our first editor, Ethan Rodriguez-Torrent, and used through last year, was deleted because hackers had taken control of it. . . .

For the first time in a few months, we�ve actually managed to get an issue out two weeks after our last issue. With midterms, blizzards, vacations, and CAPTs behind us, the Phoenix is returning full-force to our every-other-week schedule for the rest of the year. We�re continuing the new ideas we started last time, and hoping to add even more each issue!

The Friday before February break, I went with six other Phoenix staff members to the University of Hartford�s High School Newspaper Conference. Going in, we weren�t really sure what to expect, but we came out with free t-shirts, free food, and a lot of really cool new ideas. . .
