On Sunday, January 15th, 2012, the world gathered around their TVs to watch the biggest stars in Hollywood get made fun of by Ricky Gervais. Oh yeah, and to see who won a Golden Globe. As we all know, the Golden Globe Awards are given to the best of the best in the television and movie industries for the year.

Most people have probably heard that Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe has been starring in the fifty-year revival of Broadway’s How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. This year, however, Radcliffe gave up his Broadway stunt and handed it to none other than Darren Criss, Starkid member and Glee star. Criss starred in this show for a limited time. His run, which lasted only three weeks, began on January 3 and ended January 22.

Valentine’s Day director Garry Marshall makes his comeback with the new film New Year’s Eve. With the same general idea, this movie brings a big-name cast together for intertwined stories that all happen on one night in New York City, New Year’s Eve. With actors such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Ashton Kutcher, this film draws in a wide audience. Similar to Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Eve is a feel-good movie with many plots to follow. A romantic comedy, this movie follows the relationships of young and old, married and dating couples. Though New Year’s Eve is supposed to be a cute, feel-good movie, it may be a little confusing and many of the characters may end up lost in the shuffle. If you are not one to love romantic comedies, then you would not have the patience to enjoy this light movie. But if you are like myself, and have the patience to follow a rushed but simple plot, your ten dollars will not be wasted. It is the perfect movie to see with your girls, your boyfriend or girlfriend, your mom, or your sister. There are many different kinds of relationships and honestly something for everyone. Whether you like true love or funny moments, this movie presents a good time. It is the perfect blend of romance and comedy.

The Book of Mormon is one of the most popular shows on Broadway. Although it is a relatively new show, it has received a lot of awards, including the Tony Award for Best Musical. Because of this, tickets are extremely difficult to come by. . .

For over 75 years, the Big Apple has been the spot for one of the greatest shows on earth: the Christmas Spectacular! And do you know who has made this show so spectacular? The New York City Rockettes! This group of precision dancers performs five shows a day, for seven days a week during the holiday season. But those grueling hours of practice, practice, practice pay off!

StarKid Productions members describe themselves as an ensemble of writers, actors, directors, designers, producers, and other goof-offs. They are a prime example of how the internet has the ability to take a group of normal people and transform them into internationally known celebrities. This group was invented by drama and music students at the University of Michigan. Team Starkid has completed a plethora of projects throughout the course of their existence, the most well know of which is A Very Potter Musical (AVPM). This is a two hour long play that is a parody of the popular book and movie series, Harry Potter. Their other projects include A Very Potter Sequel (AVPS) and Starship.

I’m sure you have read a least one of Dr. Suess’s magical childhood story books. On March 2nd, 2012, one of his books will finally be brought to the IMAX 3D theater as a computer animated film. Dr. Suess’s The Lorax promises to be a very entertaining movie. For those of you who haven’t read the picture book, it’s about an amazing little creature, the Lorax, and his attempt to protect his beloved trees from being made into clothing for humans. The movie is based on this story for children, and has a little romance in it as well. Ted (voiced by Zac Efron), is the main character in the movie. We follow him on his pursuit to accomplish his one goal in life, which is to gain the love and affection of the girl next door, Audrey (voiced by Taylor Swift). What Audrey wants is something their little town can’t offer, so Ted makes it his goal to find it. He learns about the Lorax from his grandmother (voiced by Betty White). Other characters are the Lorax (voiced by Danny DeVito), the Once-ler (voiced by Ed Helms), and O’Hare (voiced by Rob Riggle). Will Ted find this thing that can help him get a shot at his one true love? You’re going to have to wait a couple more months to find out!

Thursday the seventeenth of November was the opening night for the play Cassandra, written and directed by our very own Mr. Doniger. There was a full house in the black box theater, filled with parents, friends, and many English students looking for extra credit. . .

I’m sure you have all seen at least one of the Twilight movies or read at least one of the books. It’s hard not to with all of the constant media attention that websites and magazines give the whole saga. For those of you who have read the books, you probably say that they are far better than the movies. But, how much do you let your opinion of the books influence your opinion of the movies? For me, having read all the books and seen all the movies thus far, I try to watch the movies with an open mind.
