Phoenix: What do you plan on doing as the newly elected president?

Tom: Being president of your class means that you have taken responsibility of raising money to fund for school events and to provide the class with activities to help make high school better. This year, I plan to help the sophomore class in all the ways that I can. We have a lot of work to do this year, including planning the Ring Dance for next year and booking a site for next year's prom. Along with these things, I also plan to try and organize other fun events for the school to participate in. The fashion show is an option but we are also thinking of other ideas that will be fun as well.

Phoenix: What should people know about the Leadership Council?

Tom: The leadership council is the group that makes decisions regarding the Class of 2014. It includes the elected officers and any other interested members of the Class of 2014. We come together about once a month and we talk about upcoming events we have organized and plan events for the future. These events are both fun and help benefit our school. Everybody from the Class of 2014 is welcome to come. We want to hear your opinions on all of the topics that we are discussing.

Phoenix: What made you want to be the president?

Tom: Last year, I was the class treasurer. I really liked the group and how it worked, so I wanted to run for a position again. I decided to run for president because it gives me an opportunity to help our class have a great high school experience. I also thought it would a fun thing to do.

Phoenix: How would you summarize the difference between the Leadership and Student Councils?

Tom: The leadership council is a group of students from just one class addressing issues and planning events that are mainly for their class. We also do plan events for the whole school, but a lot of what we do benefits our class. Student council is a group that extends to all students school wide and plans a lot of fun events for the school as a whole. I think the leadership council is more focused on raising money and helping plan events for our class while the student council is more focused on fun for the whole school.

Phoenix: Anything else you'd like to add?

Tom: If you’re in the Class of 2014, come join the leadership council! Our next meeting is on October 19th in the media center. We'd be happy to hear your opinions.
