Dear Reader:

There’s a lot going on at Pomperaug now that everyone has settled down into their regular routine, and we’ve got it all covered in this issue. You can read interviews with your newly elected class presidents, Tom DePalma for the class of 2014 and Mengting Zhang for the class of 2013, on page 5, or find out more about Ms. Driscoll, Region 15’s Teacher of the Year, on page 6. And if you’re wondering what’s up with the paper leaves and acorns taped to the cafeteria walls, check out our story on page 7.

As always, there’s a rundown of important current events on the next page if you’d like to get caught up on your world news. We’ve also delved deeper into a few national news topics later in the issue, with an opinion piece on the Troy Davis case on page 13 along with an explanation of No Child Left Behind (and how it relates to PHS) on page 8. We’ve got music reviews, spotlights on a club and a college, and more, so I’ll leave you to read.

I love to hear feedback, so let us know what you think of this issue by emailing me at staff@phsphoenix.com or leaving a post on our Facebook page (facebook.com/phsphoenix). And if you’d like to join The Phoenix, that’s even better! We’re always looking for new staff members. For now though, thanks for reading!

Sincerely,

Rebecca Beilinson
