If you have been at lunch in the last week or so, chances are you’ve noticed a bunch of red snowmen on the walls. You may have also noticed that each snowman has gift written on it. This is all part of the Snowman Project. Members of Interact and Student Council brought this project to Pomperaug in order to help out the Southbury Needy Fund. The Southbury Needy Fund is an organization that aids families who may not be able to currently afford all of life’s necessities. The fund is very busy during the holiday season as it has to deliver basic items (such as bedding, coats, sweaters, boots, mittens, and toys) to around 88 families with 182 children with need. The members of both Interact and Student Council decided that Pomperaug would be able to help out this cause during the holiday season.

If you wish to participate in this project, all you must do is go down to the cafeteria and choose any red snowman. You then must purchase the gift listed on the snowman and return the gift to the Holiday Snowman Box in the cafeteria by no later than December 14th. People who wish to donate are asked to remove any price tags and to not wrap the present.

This project is an excellent opportunity to help local families in need. In the current economic climate, it is important to help those who haven’t been so fortunate; the Snowman Project allows us to do just that. Mrs. DeGregory, who helped organize the Snowman Project, also wanted to express that any and all participation in this project would be greatly appreciated. She said, “On behalf of both Interact and Student Council, we would like to thank the entire student body and members of the faculty who were generous enough to participate in this worthwhile activity. It truly is a reflection of our school-wide caring community.”
