The atmosphere leading up to Super Bowl XLVI was simply electric. The resurgent Giants were matched up against the perennial powerhouse Patriots. This was all too familiar, for the 2012 Super Bowl had the same feeling that the 2007 Super Bowl had, and the Patriots and Giants faithful were expecting another epic duel. Tom Coughlin and the New York Giants were looking to cap an unprecedented run through the playoffs while the coach/quarterback tandem of Bill Belichek and Tom Brady were looking to secure their fourth Super Bowl victory. This Super Bowl was hyped up to the point where anything short of magic would disappoint fans. The fans were not disappointed. The rematch of the century was on and fans for both the Giants and the Patriots were excited. Eli Manning had the chance to secure his name in the NFL as an elite quarterback while Tom Brady had the opportunity to earn the title of the NFL's best quarterback ever. The first quarter was all Giants. The G-men recorded a safety on a Tom Brady intentional grounding call as well as a Victor Cruz touchdown pass. The second quarter belonged to the Patriots, with a Gostkowski field goal and a 96 yard touchdown drive. At the half-time the Patriots had the one point advantage. Bellichek's team came out at the beginning of the second half roaring. Tom Brady marched down the field leading to a touchdown by Connecticut native Aaron Hernandez. The Giants pulled within two as Lawrence Tynes nailed two field goals to put the score at 15 - 17 entering the fourth quarter. The stage was set. All the viewers, whether they be at home or at Lucas Oil Stadium, were now primed for Giants verses Patriots fourth quarter magic. Would it be the Patriots who would avenge their perfect season killing loss to the Giants in 2007, or would it be the Giants to upset the Patriots yet again on the biggest stage? Tom Brady got the ball to start the quarter and was intercepted at the Giants 8 yard line. The ensuing Giants drive resulted in a punt as did the following Pats drive. Eli Manning had the ball with 3:46 left in regulation poised to make history. On the very first play Manning threw a risky pass to Mario Manningham that left Giants fans praying for a miracle catch. Manningham managed to catch the ball, get both feet in bounds, and retain possession throughout the catch. After being reviewed the play resulted in a gain of 38 yards for the Giants. This was also the longest play of the game. The catch was very reminiscent of David Tyree's famous helmet catch in the 2007 Super Bowl. From there, Ahmad Bradshaw scored on a 6 yard run to put the score at 21 - 17 Giants. With 57 seconds left, Tom Brady was ready to have his Super Bowl moment. He converted the game continuing 4th and 16, which set up a desperate Hail Mary attempt at midfield that harmlessly fell to the turf. Game over. Now, a week after the loss, Patriots fans are fuming and some are even calling for Bellichek's job. Tom Brady is receiving criticism for throwing bad passes toward the end of the game. Mayhem is surrounding Foxborough. Everybody is excited to see what the next season will bring are hoping that next year’s Super Bowl will not disappoint.
