After one full month of school, Pomperaug’s various sports teams are looking very strong. The Panther’s Girls Swimming and Diving team continue their annual success; they have yet to lose a regular season meet this year. Led by All-American and All-State swimmers, this team is poised to do very well in the SWC and State competitions. This team also boasts 23 talented seniors, who haven’t lost a regular season meet in their four years at PHS.
Swimming is not the only PHS team that is having tremendous success. The boys’ soccer team is receiving national attention for their success, having compiled and impressive 10-0-1 record at the time of this writing. Currently, they are ranked 16th in the nation, and are the highest ranked team out of the schools in Connecticut. The only other ranked boys soccer team in Connecticut that is ranked is South Windsor, who is ranked 20th, nationally. Meanwhile, the girls’ soccer team is 4-2-3 so far this year. The Pomperaug varsity football team defeated previously unranked Newtown last week 16 to 9. At the time of writing, the volleyball team is 8-5 so far and is 11th in class LL.
