I’m sure you have all seen at least one of the Twilight movies or read at least one of the books. It’s hard not to with all of the constant media attention that websites and magazines give the whole saga. For those of you who have read the books, you probably say that they are far better than the movies. But, how much do you let your opinion of the books influence your opinion of the movies? For me, having read all the books and seen all the movies thus far, I try to watch the movies with an open mind.
So, what is my opinion of Breaking Dawn? It was good. For those of you who have not read this book, I don’t really want to spoil it for you, but the general plot is that Bella and Edward finally get married. They have a beyond fairytale-type wedding and go on their honeymoon to a private island that belongs to Edward’s family. And that is where it gets a little intense. While it starts out all happy-go-lucky for the newlyweds, it soon turns into a nightmare when Bella finds out that she is pregnant. So, just a little advice for those of who plan to pursue an intimate relationship with a beautiful bloodsucking demon: use protection. Bella, who had to learn this lesson the painful way, finds out that being pregnant with a vampire’s baby has some complications. When the new Mr. and Mrs. Cullen cut their honeymoon short and head back home, they learn that there are very few vampire children in the world. Therefore, there isn’t a lot of helpful information about how the baby will affect the mother. Throughout the movie, we see Bella’s health slowly deteriorate as the pregnancy moves at a much faster pace than that of a normal one.
But that’s not all folks! We mustn’t forget about the La Push gang or, as they’re better known, the werewolves, and more specifically, Jacob Black. In Eclipse, we left Jake still fawning over his best friend Bella, all the while struggling with his place in the wolf pack. Here, we find him still desperately wanting to kill Edward, but knowing he can’t do so unless their treaty with the Cullens is broken and they turn Bella into a vampire or kill another human being. When Jake learns that Bella is pregnant, he is even more upset than when he found out that they were getting married. But when Sam Uley, leader of the wolf pack, decides that they must kill Bella’s demon child as soon as it’s born, Jacob gets a little peeved. He knows that Bella clearly won’t survive the birth and, knowing how important this child is to her, he feels that there is no way that he could hurt his Bella like that.
I know what you’re thinking; what happens to Bella and the baby? Will Jake go along with Sam’s order despite his better judgment? And where does Edward stand in all of this mess? Well, I’m sorry to leave you hanging, but you’ll just have to go see the movie to find out for yourself! But in all seriousness, it was a very good film and even if you haven’t read the books or don’t even really like Twilight, I recommend you see it. It has everything from romance to drama, suspense and even some creepy horror movie type graphics!
