Wrongly Convicted Men Set Free

Nineteen years ago, three teenagers were convicted of rape and murder of a fourteen-year-old girl in Illinois. This past week, two of the three convicted men were released with the other man scheduled to be released later this week after having the charges against them dropped. DNA evidence that was once used to convict the three teenagers was what set them free this week. Robert Taylor and James Harden both walked free today with family waiting for them outside the state prison. Jonathan Barr, brother of Harden, is also set to be freed soon. The prosecutors that once convicted them lately conceded that they did not commit the crimes they were convicted of after serving nearly twenty years in prison.

Greek Economic Crisis

With riots sparking all over Europe due to the economic decline of the euro zone, Greece is the worst of them all. While the young Greek population is violently protesting in the streets, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel and France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy are meeting with Greece’s Prime Minister George Papandreou, imploring him to impose the harsh austerity acts which would prompt the EU’s multi-billion dollar bailout and possibly save the Euro from collapse. Just this past week, Papandreou withdrew his motion for a referendum on the austerity acts and just narrowly missed being taken from power by surviving a confidence vote 153-144.

What has become a symbol of the United States has now turned into a symbol of the world during this harsh economic time. What would have solely remained in the US a few years back has now grown with the help of social media. Now, Greece has been thrown into turmoil with protests and riots of their own forming in response to the economic crisis as well as other European countries.

Penn State Scandal

The popular football university of Penn State has been headline worthy on ESPN for many years now. However, now, they are making headlines in other, less favorable, ways. A coach of the Penn State football team, Jerry Sandusky, is now embroiled in a battle concerning allegations of sexual assault on young boys at a football camp in the university football complex. Two other men have been arrested under the charge that they knew about the scandal and did not report it. Penn State will now have to deal with the end of the football season just in time for their legal season to begin.

Cain Sexual Misconduct Scandal

Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain now not only has to deal with attacks from his opponents, but also from women who now say that they were plagued with inappropriate sexually advances from Cain. Sharon Bialek came forward today with her story and called upon the presidential hopeful to come clean. Herman Cain has told reporters that he will not entertain discussion over these allegations, but has not denied the claims. With primary season looming on the horizon, one can only wonder what other allegations will come forward.
