It’s campaign season, and that means it’s time for mudslinging, name-calling, underhanded tactics, horse race journalism, and the dreaded gaffes made by politicians and public figures. This campaign season has had no shortage of any of the above, but the past few weeks have given us some of the greatest gaffes of all time.

Approximately two weeks ago , a video titled “KONY 2012” was uploaded to vimeo.com. On March 5, the video was also uploaded to YouTube. Between the two sites, the video has accumulated over eighty million views in the short time that it has been online. Produced by the non-profit organization Invisible Children, Inc., the video aims to raise awareness about Joseph Kony, a Ugandan war criminal who is known to have kidnapped thousands of children for use as soldiers in his rebel army, the Lord’s Resistance Army. The video is approximately thirty minutes long, and describes the guerilla warfare tactics used by Kony as well as criticizing the American government’s response to it.

Although the Middle East may seem extremely far away and unimportant compared to America, there have been some massive uprisings lately that are worth looking into. In the small country of Syria, many people have recently began rebelling against their leader, Bashar al-Assad, and the rest of the Syrian government.

Relations between Iran and Israel have been in the news lately, along with speculation of U.S. involvement. The U.S. has long been a close ally of Israel, and does not want to see Iran attain nuclear weapons capability.
